What the app does
Works where you type
Use it in mail, documents, and chat. The text goes to your cursor.
Stays out of your way
A small waveform shows at the bottom of the screen. It does not take focus from your app.
Your audio is not saved
Quip It uses the internet to change speech to text. It does not save your audio.
Text history on your device
Copy or delete past transcripts. You can stop saving history in Settings.
Questions
Does Quip It need an internet connection?
Yes. Quip It uses the internet to change speech to text.
Is my audio saved?
No. Audio stays in memory while it is changed to text, and it is not saved. If a dictation fails, Quip It keeps that audio only so you can retry, until your next recording or until you quit the app.
Where is my text history stored?
On your device, in a file in the Quip It data folder. It is a plain local file, not an encrypted vault. History keeps your latest 1,000 entries. You can copy or delete each entry, and you can stop saving history in Settings.
Where do I manage my account and plan?
In the Quip It app. There is no web account page or dashboard.
Which systems does Quip It work on?
Windows, macOS, and Linux. On macOS, allow Microphone access, and Accessibility access for automatic paste. On Linux with Wayland, some features depend on your desktop, and you may need to copy a transcript and paste it yourself.
What counts toward the 500 words?
Words in the transcripts you get back. A dictation that fails does not count. If one recording takes you past 500, you still get all of its text. The next recording waits until midnight.
Is Unlimited available yet?
Not yet. Downloads and upgrades are not available, and the Unlimited price is not set.
